What is Food Allergy?
Food allergy is caused by symptoms such as respiratory complaints, unconsciousness, vomiting, abdominal pain after eating. If these symptoms occur after foods such as milk, seafood, peanut, tomato, egg, etc., you should go to the doctor without any delay. Various foods are consumed throughout life. These foods contain building blocks such as vitamins, fats, proteins, carbohydrates, which are defined as nutrients. Food allergy is the result of these building stones being perceived as a foreign substance by the immune system. Antibodies against foreign substances in food cause unwanted allergic reactions in the body.
In children, food allergies can occur against milk, eggs, and eggs and seafood in adulthood. The most common food allergies occur against shellfish, peanuts, fish and eggs. The food allergies in children are concentrated in foods such as milk, shellfish, soy products, egg whites, tomatoes. It may cause an allergic reaction in colorants, preservative additives, cocoa, tea, cola foods put into food stuffs. While some foods themselves cause allergic reactions, others can cross-react with the same type of food. In other words, people with almonds such as almonds and walnuts may have allergic effects on other types of peanuts.
What are the signs for Food Allergy?
Food allergens that cause disturbing expression in humans cause digestive system problems to be quite pronounced. The body, which produces antibodies against allergens, secretes histamine in fighting them. However, people may have nasal discharge, throat pruritus, rash on the skin, urticaria, swelling in the respiratory tract, resulting in shortness of breath, stomach aches, cramps and diarrhea. While there are slight effects on some allergens, some have very severe effects. The most important points in the food allergy are;
- Nausea and vomiting
- Stomach pain and stomach spasm
- Skin pruritus
- Chest pain, shortness of breath
- Narrowing the airways
- Development of an anaphylactic fatal event
- Allergic swelling, abdominal pain and diarrhea can be seen in the milk caused by lactose.
How is Food Allergy treated?
In order to be diagnosed, it should be assessed as to what symptoms the person is after. If the symptoms clear up after the suspected food is cut off, food allergies can be diagnosed. Sometimes symptoms may develop with exercise after consuming foods. There is food allergy that develops by exercise. If there are such symptoms in people without food allergies, factors such as food poisoning, lactose insufficiency, irritable bowel syndrome, stress should be taken into consideration. Food allergy has no effective treatment. For this reason, allergen food should be identified and avoided. Food allergies should be assessed in people when there are symptoms, especially when there is an allergy trait in the family, when the age is small, the risk is higher.
